high dynamic range

Yesterday I discovered the existence of a photography technique called High Dynamic Range. I’m not sure of the details, but the basic gist of it is that it uses multiple shots of the same scene at different exposures and somehow really brings out the color. There’s a Flickr group for these shots which is just amazing to browse.

I also stumbled across some other photos which are not HDR but are amazing anyway. These are all shots of underground machinery in Japan. Most of it looks like computer-rendered graphics, but it is all real photography.

If you’re getting truckloads of credit card offers every week, I found a link to a site that allegedly allows you to be removed from the mailing lists. I thought that calling it would be a nightmare, but it is actually an example of excellent usability in a phone system, which is fairly difficult to find.

Lastly, check out the adventures of Action Item Man!

new toy!

Alisha was so sweet as to get me an early birthday present:

So far I’ve just got New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age. Though my birthday is coming up. (hint, hint.)

My next task is to convince more friends to get one too. The wireless play is one of the slickest part of the whole deal, especially since most games let you play many players off a single game card. So far I think Luke and Lem have been convinced, and those that haven’t simply have yet to see how cool it is in person. 8-player puyo puyo, anyone?
